The Path Cleared for Bhikṣuṇī Ordination in Bhutan Presenter; Gelongma Pema Deki, Gelongma Namgyel Lhamo, Tashi Zangmo Presented at the 18th Sakyadhita Seoul 2023, paper session 3; Awakening: Women’s Ordination Past and Present. https://sakyadhita2023.kr/ Gelongma Pema Deki (Emma Slade) was born in England and educated at universities in Cambridge and London. She left a high-powered financial career to explore yoga and meditation, which eventually led her to Bhutan and the Drukpa Kagyu lineage of Buddhism. She became a novice nun in 2014 and received full ordination in 2022. In 2015, she founded the charitable organization Opening Your Heart to Bhutan to help children in Bhutan. In 2017 she was given the Point of Light award by the UK Prime Minister in recognition of her charitable work in Bhutan. Her book Set Free was published in 2017.
