The AT-TE gun could not pierce the transports main armour, so the blast & fireball was produced entirely by the weapon itself. Even the much more powerful mass-drivers on a LAAT could not pierce the Hardcell's, main armour, and had to strike a relative-weak-spot "just above the fuel cells" to have an effect.
