We lost a matriarch this year - the incredible Vivian E. Grant Lewis (aka "Gram"). She would have turned 96 years old on Christmas Day, but we lost her on December 4th. This song is a tribute to her. She was my husband's grandmother and, as someone who lost all my grandparents at a fairly young age, I was so grateful to have a grandma again when Ronnie and I got married. Through her many gifts and passions, "Gram" touched the lives of countless of people. Her wit, charm, and warmth left an impression on all who have the privilege of meeting her. She was a true powerhouse of a woman. This song is definitely a bit out of my wheelhouse, but it was one of her all-time favorites. It was actually one of her final wishes that Ernie and I would sing it together. Ernie has been a long time part of my family and Gram used to watch him sing every week on the "Hour of Power" livestream. She fell in love with his voice (as I know all of you will too!) and wrote him a letter expressing how much she admired him. This grew into a beautiful friendship between the two of them - having long phone conversations about life - laughing, joking, and sharing. Ernie and I actually learned the song and surprised her with it the last time we were out visiting in Pennsylvania. Getting to record this felt like the most fitting way to commemorate her memory through music and I hope it touches your heart.
