AUSTIN, Texas – Texas vs Kansas No. 11/11 Texas (17-2, 4-2) took down Kansas (9-8, 2-4) 91-56 on Tuesday at Moody Center. The Longhorns got off to a hot start against the Jayhawks, finishing the first quarter with a 25-12 lead off of 71.4 percent shooting from the field. Junior Aaliyah Moore set the tone early shooting 4-4 in the quarter and forcing Kansas into a timeout after drilling a midrange jump shot at the 2:07 marker to give the Horns a 20-10 lead. Senior Shay Holle added to the lead with a 3 pointer directly in front of the Kansas bench off of the freshman Madison Booker assist, and senior Khadija Faye capped off the quarter with a jumper of her own off of another Booker assist. Booker finished the game with 15 points, six assists and five rebounds. Aaliyah Moore led the Longhorns with 17 points on 7-7 shooting from the field. Khadija Faye scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Shaylee Gonzales contributed 12 points. Texas never looked back, and their lead ballooned up to 39-18 before the first media timeout of the period. After the timeout, Texas managed to string together a couple of highlight plays to close out the first half. With 1:16 left in the half, Booker sliced through the lane and went behind the back to collect a layup and give Texas a 43-24 lead. Moore closed out the half with a shot from the midrange to beat the halftime buzzer and reclaim a 21-point lead which matched the largest lead of the half. Moore ended the half shooting a perfect 6-6 from the field and scoring 15 points through 14 minutes of playing time. As a team, Texas tallied 12 assists in the half with Holle and Booker each accounting for 4. The Longhorns continued to dominate in the second half, and they finished the game having outscored the Jayhawks in every quarter. Late in the third quarter, sophomore Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda rejected a Skyler Gill jump shot to spark a fastbreak where graduate Shaylee Gonzales finished with a layup to give Texas a 62-40 advantage. Then seconds later, Gonzales forced a Kansas turnover which led to an and-one for sophomore Amina Muhammad who converted the free throw. The Longhorns went into the fourth quarter leading the Jayhawks 73-41. Texas finished the contest shooting 63.6 percent from downtown and 59 percent from the field. Gonzales, Moore, Booker, and Faye all finished with double digits in the scoring column. With the win, Texas is now 11-0 when holding opponents under 60 points. Up next, the Longhorns will leave for a one game road trip to Stillwater, Oklahoma where they will take on Oklahoma State on Saturday, Jan. 20. Postgame Notes • Texas improved to 17-2 on the season and 4-2 in Big 12 games. • Texas moves 35-12 all-time against KU protecting a four-game win streak. • The Longhorns are now 11-0 when holding an opponent to 59 points or under. • Junior Aaliyah Moore got off to a hot start scoring 11 points, shooting a perfect 4-4 from the floor, drawing two charges, and grabbing a steal. • Texas went on a 14-2 run to end the first quarter, making seven shots in a row, and forcing six turnovers in the last four minutes which led to a 12-2 advantage in points-off turnovers. • Senior Khadija Faye was dominant on the glass with three offensive rebounds and had 10 points, shooting a perfect five for five from the field in the first half. • Texas shot very well from behind the arc at 66.7 percent (4-6) in the first half. • To end the third quarter, the Longhorns went on a 13-1 run, in the last three minutes, and did not allow any field goals to the Jayhawks. • Freshman Madison Booker had her ninth game in a row with double-figure points as she completed the night with a balanced 15 points, six assists, five rebounds, and shooting an efficient 50 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three. • The Longhorn bench made a difference in outscoring the Jayhawks bench by 19 points. At the end of the game, Khadija Faye had a near double-double with 14 points and tied her season-high of eight rebounds. • Texas dished out 22 assists with four players who had three or more assists. • 59 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from three were Texas' efficient shooting splits, and the defense limited the KU's to 33.3 percent on field goals, and just 7.7% from three. • Texas held a 30-10 advantage in points off turnovers and 18-9 edge in second chance points. The Longhorns forced Kansas into 22 turnovers.
