Montana 24, sharptail Grouse, Huns and a rattlesnake?!

Grabbed the dogs and headed to Montana for the sharptail grouse opener, warm weather only allowed us to hunt mornings and the last hour of the day but we had a blast anyway! Ive always done hold conditioning and repetition with dogs for retrieving, but tried the trained retrieve this year for Oliver in one last ditch effort to get him retrieving and it's starting to pay off! He's not there completely yet but getting closer with each outing, I really took my time with the process, being gentle and patient as we went along and it seems to be working. Training in the city most of us are limited for places to train, birds, etc. but just gotta make do. Getting my dogs on as many wild birds as I can during the season is what I do, teaching them hunt dead etc. The area I was in received hail this Summer but we did find plenty of birds still but it definitely took a toll on numbers. Very thankful the rattlesnake encounter wasn't worse than it was, Ace had his nose literally on that snake at one point. I would normally had let that snake go but couldn't risk it with 3 bird dogs with high prey drive, it would be a recipe for disaster I believe, Oliver went back towards that snake and had it moved there was a possibility his prey drive would've kicked in and he may have went after it.
