Vic Elford | Rally Racing the Porsche 911 | Roads & Rides

Vic Elford discusses his start with Porsche rally racing and the tremendous year he had with them in 1967. Vic Elford is one of the most versatile drivers in the sport. Know as "Quick Vic" by his peers Elford has raced and beat some of the best drivers in the world. Elford is one of only four drivers to have six major victories at the Nurburgring. He has also won the Targa Florio, Sebring and Daytona. Elford was the first to start racing Porsches in 1967. He was loaned a car to see how he would fair in the '67 rally season. He did so well that he ended up racing with Porsche for years to come. He is the only driver to race in every version of the 917. Elford was the driver for all the up-close action shots in Steve McQueen's movie "Le Mans". During the 24 hours of Le Mans a driver crashed in front of Elford and in true british gentleman fashion, he stopped his car mid-race and helped the driver from his burning car.
