Family Of Myuran Sukumaran Accept Posthumous GQ Artist Award

The family of Myuran Sukumaran accepted the posthumous award for Artist Of The Year, with his brother Chintu saying there is no place for the death penalty in this world. Sukumaran was sentenced to death for his involvement in the Bali Nine drug trafficking ring. Both he and Andrew Chan were executed by firing squad in April for their so-called involvement. Prior to his death, Sukumaran developed a love and undisputed talent for art, creating a large body of work during his imprisonment, including many self-portraits. Archibald Prize winner Ben Quilty, who considered Sukumaran his friend and protégé, was one of many who took to Twitter to voice his thoughts on the posthumous honour. GQ honoured Sukumaran and hosted members of his family as writer and TV presenter Waleed Aly announced Myuran Artist of the Year at a ceremony held at Merivale’s ivy Ballroom in Sydney.
