Los Padres National Forest is hands down my favorite national forest in the greater Los Angeles region. It takes a bit longer to take to than a lot of other national forests and wildlife areas in the region, but it offers stunning views, secluded trails and campsites, and an ability to disappear into nature. I set out on the Piedra Blanca Trailhead and headed north and up a 3000 foot climb into the Sespe Wilderness. At the peak elevation of about 6800 feet, you'll definitely see snow in the winter months. This is an excellent trip for experienced fastpackers, ultralight backpacking fans, or backpackers looking for a get away for a few nights. Subscribe:    / @scottnickley3605   I did a similar trip in July and it did not go well. I ended up dry heaving from dehydration from a lack of water. In winter, the creeks fill back up and there's plenty of snow you can melt and drink as well. The main reason I love this route is because it does get you well into the back country, but it ends on a moderately trafficked trail along the Sespe River.
