Keum Boo Demonstration with Eve Doyle

Would you like to learn more about the day to day inner workings of a goldsmith’s studio? Join jewellery designer and goldsmith Eve Doyle who will demonstrate the Korean technique, Keum Boo. Keum-boo is an ancient Korean gilding technique used to apply thin sheets of gold to silver, to make silver-gilt. Traditionally, this technique is works by raising a layer of pure silver to the surface of sterling silver. Then 24 carat gold foil is applied with heat and pressure fusing the old to the silver in a permanent bond. Eve’s work was on display at the National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts & History site as part of the now closed exhibition InForm. InForm was a two-year long collaborative project between the National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts & History and the ‪@DesignCraftsCouncilIreland‬ (DCCI). It culminates in a vibrant exhibition, which show-cases contemporary Irish ceramics and jewellery by twenty-two emerging makers, next to the Museum objects that inspired them. InForm displayed 42 ceramic objects and 52 pieces of jewellery alongside 23 objects from the National Museum of Ireland’s collections. Museum objects on display in the exhibition included Indian, Japanese, Chinese and Persian decorative arts objects, a model screen made by renowned Irish architect and designer Eileen Gray, an ancient Roman glass vessel, as well as Irish Folklife objects and scientific instruments, among them a 19th century pocket globe.
