Madaba Map – Oldest Surviving Map of the Holy Land

The Madaba Map is a floor mosaic in the Church of Saint George in Madaba, Jordan dating from the 6th century AD during Byzantine rule. It is the oldest surviving original cartographic depiction of the Holy Land, including exceptional depictions of Jerusalem as well as many other locations primarily pertaining to the Christian faith. We will explore the contents of this map and how it relates to the historical period that it depicted.
