White Breasted Nuthatch Attacking Camera : Campark TC02 Trail Camera with Macro Filter

Male White Breasted Nuthatch repeatedly attacking my trail camera. South-west Quebec, 7th October 2024. There were no lights illuminated on the camera or mechanical noises that could have attracted him. Fortunately the lens (with glass macro filter attached) was not his target. Likely what caught his attention was his own reflection in the IR light panel above the lens which he perceived to be a rival male. Thankfully the camera and lens filter were not damaged in any way - not even a mark. Since I don't film the birds after dark, I've deactivated the IR lights and covered the panel with a piece of non-reflective (matt) light brown card. The male now shows no interest in the camera at all. Nuthatches become increasingly territorial in the fall as they stockpile food for the winter and will go to great lengths to protect their stashes - taking erratic zig-zag routes to evade rivals following them. #camparktrailcamera #trailcamera #macro #backyardbirds
