Skylights instead of windows & choosing solar tubes

We've included a skylight/roof window and two solar tubes in our side and rear extension to let the light in. We decided not to have a roof window in the new bedroom (as I explain) but added one in the loft when we were re-doing the roof. We also added the solar tubes to bring daylight into areas where it wasn't possible to include windows. The solar tubes are surprisingly effective and energy efficient so if you don't need to be able to open the roof window they are definitely worth considering. There are lots of roof windows on the market, each offering their own benefits. We opted for Keylight roof windows because they were easy to fit and they come with an integrated thermal collar which improves their energy efficiency so is good for eco passiv houses too.
