"We all wanted our pictures to change the world. We didn't want to just illustrate some terrible situation; we wanted to think that when you saw all our photographs that you'd be so moved or disturbed or motivated by these pictures that you'd want to do something about it." Photographer Rick Smolan, formerly of National Geographic, curates a collection of 100 years of photos documenting the course of social justice in the United States, from the perspective of various groups of people who have been marginalized. Rick Smolan is a NatGeo Photographer and best-selling author with more than five million copies of his books in print. Smolan is best known as the co-creator of the "Day in the Life" book series. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
