David Suchet CBE performs Saleri's speech in Act 1, Scene V of Peter Shaffer's play 'Amadeus' at A Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate the life and work of Sir Peter Hall CBE, held at Westminster Abbey on Tuesday 11th September 2018. 'Amadeus' by Peter Shaffer gives a highly fictionalised account of the lives of composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri. It was first performed in 1979 at the National Theatre, directed by Peter Hall. The play was later adapted into a film directed by Miloš Forman. The play was revived in 1999 at the Music Box Theatre, New York City, directed again by Peter Hall and received Tony Award nominations for Best Revival and Best Actor in a Play for David Suchet as played Salieri. Sir Peter Hall died in 2017 after a long and distinguished career in British theatre. David Suchet is best known for playing Hercule Poirot in the TV series 'Agatha Christine's Poirot'.
