Forrest Patrick Branch presents a riveting exploration of the transformative power of bold thinking, exemplified by the "Shinkansen Effect" from Japan's 'Bullet Train Thinking.' Branch applies this concept to address structural challenges within the Democratic Republic of Congo's (DRC) agribusiness value chain and food systems. He emphasises the need for innovative solutions, including vocational and field-based education, agri-tech and mechanisation, and core infrastructure investment. His vision extends beyond borders, envisioning the DRC as a global leader that feeds a substantial portion of the world's population, driven first by affordable local market access, and international food exports. A passionate call to action resonates throughout the talk, urging investor collaboration, innovation for sustainable development, and impact-driven, transformative outcomes. Forrest is co-founder and Managing Director of KolAgri sarl, a thriving agribusiness in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Boasting vast farming experience, he oversees a 30,000-tonne grain storage system and a maize packaging startup. Forrest's career spans rural development, agribusiness, and reducing horticulture imports in Namibia. He excels in enterprise strategy, import substitution, and agri-tourism, actively participating in Namibia's agribusiness This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
