Poor hydration - not drinking enough water and other fluids. Holding your urine for prolonged periods, allowing bacteria more opportunity to grow. Improper wiping after a bowel movement. Going from back to front will expose the urethra to bacteria Irritation and inflammation in the vaginal area. Changes in the structure of the urinary system, as may happen during pregnancy Various other medical disorders and conditions, like diabetes, that affect the immune system.
