FINAL UPDATE (problem has been isolated to the transmission and not the Northstar 4.6 liter engine): UPDATE: My mechanic was able to unbolt the torque converter from the flexplate and then run the engine. With the torque converter unbolted, this whining noise was gone. So, the noise is coming from something inside the transmission as opposed to the engine. I am not going to spend the money to repair or replace the transmission. I plan to sell the car and disclose this info to the new owner. It still shifts all gears perfectly and the motor is still very strong so hopefully the next owner will enjoy it for a long time! I drove it for 11 years and put the last 140K miles on it. The odometer reads 206,680 now. It was a great car but it's time to move on. This video was originally recorded for Gary Ferraro (a 4T80E transmission expert) so he could provide his thoughts.
