Join us as we jump on the CalMac ferry on the Isle of Skye and head across the Sound of Sleat back to Scotland mainland in typical Scottish weather - wind and rain! You can get to and from the Isle of Skye without getting on a ferry via the Skye bridge, but we always love to hop on this ferry crossing as it provides a chance to see our favourite orca duo 'John Coe and Aquarius' who we have seen previously in this exact location that the ferry crosses through. The ferry leaves from Armadale which is located on the south west coast of Skye and takes you across to Mallaig which is around 45 minutes to an hour long. CalMac Ferries (Caledonian MacBrayne) are the major operator of passenger and vehicle ferries to the west coast of Scotland, serving ports on the mainland and 22 of the major islands. CalMac operates 33 vessels to over 50 ports and harbours on the west coast of Scotland. Caledonian MacBrayne operate on average over 162,700 sailings annually. 2018 was the company's busiest in terms of passenger numbers, carrying an estimated 5,309,771 passengers!
