Street Fighter 1 [Arcade] - play as Birdie (playthrough)

This is a play-through using Birdie in an alternate Arcade version of Street Fighter 1. Read on below for more information... This is an alternative version of the Arcade game Street Fighter 1 which allows the player to select the enemy/boss characters. Birdie is the first British enemy opponent. He is a non-selectable character in the normal version of the game. ===== About Birdie ===== Birdie is a British punk rocker. In his earlier days he was a professional wrestler who occasionally teamed up with rival Titanic Tim (from the Slam Masters games). After his wrestling career ended, he turned to a life of crime which involved some street fighting. He has also worked as a nightclub bouncer/doorman. He was invited to the first SF World Warrior tournament, in which he lost to Ryu. He eventually tracked down M.Bison and joined Shadaloo. Game-play wise, Birdie is a great character to use in SF1. His basics inflict high depletion and his standing HP (which is a double-fisted hammer) has great priority. His best moves are his basic headbutts (MK and HK) which comes out fast, travels forward and does high depletion. ===== Birdie Trivia ===== ---- He is named after the Golfing term "birdie". ---- In his stage background, there is some graffiti on the metal shutters that says "Bill Cravens". This is the name of the former Capcom USA VP of Sales and Marketing. ---- His SFA1, SFA2 and SF5 music themes are remixes of his SF1 theme. ---- Birdie is the first British black character in the SF series. ---- In SF5, Birdie becomes the first character in the series to have a neutral pose that can hurt the opponent. He does this by picking his nose and flicking the bogey at the opponent. ---- His SFA1 stage background, along with Rose's, is based on the Colosseum in Rome which appear in the movie Way of the Dragon by Bruce Lee. The stray cats are also from the movie. ---- In SF5, Birdie's battle costume resembles the late Queen singer Freddie Mercury. ---- In SF1, Birdie appears to be a white person. He appears as a black person in future SF games. The reason given for this change is that he was sick/ill which caused him to go pale in the events of SF1... ---- In SSF2T, Ryu's ending image shows him fighting a thug in the street that looks like Birdie. It is not known whether this is actually him or not. ===== Additional Information ===== ---- When you do his Backwards Deadly Hammer, he appears to "fall through" the ground when he lands. ---- Against some opponents, there is a flaw that briefly freezes and stops Birdie and his opponent from doing their jump-in's properly in the pre-fight "intro". After the freeze, the fight begins as normal. ---- In this version of the game, most of the enemie's / bosse's "special moves" are performed by holding Down or Down-Back or Down-Forward and then pressing a [P] or [K] button. Interestingly, this indicates that the enemy jumping strikes are a set routine/move, instead of a free move during jumping. It also explains why you cannot perform any strikes while jumping with them. ---- Despite selecting the enemy characters, the portrait of Ryu (1P) or Ken (2P) is always used for the versus screens. ---- When playing as an enemy character, after you win a round, the winning text will still say that Ryu or Ken won the round. ---- You can still play the 'break-the-boards' bonus games as an enemy character. However the enemy characters often do not have sufficient moves to reach/break all the boards. ---- Obviously the other bonus game where you time the karate chop will always be Ryu or Ken. ---- When you complete the game with an enemy character, it will still use Ryu's or Ken's portraits for the "king of the hill" victory message. ===== About Street Fighter ===== This is where it all began. Who would've thought that this game would develop into a sequel that ended up setting the tone for virtually all other future fighting games?
