Colorado trip, Aug 2024, from San Francisco to Denver- Vail and Carbondale

Week-long Trip to Denver, Colorado We embarked on a week-long trip to Denver, Colorado, to attend Namgyal’s wedding, starting with a four-day road trip to Vail, Carbondale, and Winter Park to visit family and friends. Denver and its surrounding area have the second-largest Khumbu Sherpa population in the USA, after New York, and we are very excited to reconnect with many Sherpa friends and families during this trip. Day 1: 11th August We left home early in the morning to catch the 8 AM flight from San Francisco to Denver. After a 2-hour flight, we landed in Denver and headed to Vail. The drive took us through breathtaking scenery in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, passing through charming small towns like Idaho Springs and Georgetown, and crossing stunning mountain passes like Loveland Pass and Vail Pass. We were so happy to arrive at Gyalzen and Minji’s home and to see Captain Pemba and Tenzing Doma. Together, we spent the afternoon exploring picturesque Vail, a town at the base of Vail Mountain, known for its massive ski resort. We also enjoyed reminiscing with Ongdi about the time he and his sister Jesica spent about two years in Kathmandu with Uru Doma Tsering and Au Pasang Dawa, 14 years ago. Day 2, 12 Aug After breakfast at Gyalzen and Minji's home, we spent the day exploring Edwards, Eagle, and Gypsum, taking in the scenic views along Glenwood Canyon. We then arrived at Ang Phura and Pema’s home in Carbondale, where we had a short tour of the town in the afternoon.
