Recently, I had the unique opportunity to appear on the Today Show, and the producers wanted me to health rate the different types of commercial bread available at supermarkets. Well, interestingly, I haven't bought commercial bread in years. So, what I discovered surprised me. And I think it will surprise you too. 🍞 Unveiling the Secrets of Commercial Bread: Bread typically is made from five ingredients - flour, yeast, water, oil, and salt. But pick up a commercial bread and you'll be surprised by the number of ingredients and what's really inside. 😳 Commercial white bread can contain over 30 ingredients. Mostly comprising of chemicals, sugar, inflammatory oils, artificial colours, preservatives, acidity regulators, and emulsifiers. Plus, not to mention white bread goes through a bleaching process to make that very unnatural white colour. And 'wholemeal' can often just be the addition of a caramel colour without any added nutritional benefits. 😳 I call processed food like this 'robbers' because it requires important nutrients and energy from the body to break down this stuff to get nothing in return. When we serve up sandwiches have a think about this...combine spreadable butter, ham and cheese, and lunch consists of 100 unnatural, chemically loaded ingredients. And kids are growing up on this stuff without parents realising it's depleting their bodies nutritionally and setting them up with lifetime inflammation. 💔 🚫 The Deception of Bread Labelling: My goodness you can NOT trust labelling laws. One commercial white bread was given a 4.5 star rating out of 5. I checked the ingredients and there was nothing natural or nutritional about this product. How do they get away with it? Truth is I'm not sure and I need to do my research, but I'm assuming it has something to do with 'fortifying' vitamins and minerals back into the bread. This is highly ineffective and really misleading. Firstly, the nutrients are removed during the refining process. Then they put these nutrients back in. But these vitamins and minerals are man-made in a lab and synthetic. Our bodies don't recognise them and certainly can't absorb them. Just more work for the body and more toxins to try and off load. 🌾 Gluten Intolerance - A Common Issue: Most of us have a gluten intolerance. I'm not talking about allergies or being Coeliac. It's likely 9 out of 10 people can't tolerate gluten and if you or your kids are dealing with any of these symptoms: fatigue, constipation, brain fog, depression/anxiety/behavioural issues, hay fever, asthma, eczema, and any autoimmune disease - gluten is NOT your friend.
