Chang'e 6 Moon Rover on Far Side in 4K panorama

On June 4, 2024, China's Chang'e 6 mission achieved a historic milestone: its rover embarked on the first traverse of the moon's far side, and the lander transmitted a breathtaking 4K resolution panorama back to Earth. Launched on May 3, 2024, Chang'e 6 represents a significant advancement in China's Lunar Exploration Program (CLEP), with primary objectives of landing on the far side, collecting samples, and returning them to Earth. This solidifies China's position as a global leader in space exploration. The lander touched down within the Apollo Basin. The six-wheeled rover, equipped with scientific instruments, was deployed for in-depth surface exploration. The 4K panorama, capturing the rover's tracks against the lunar landscape, offers an unprecedented view of the lunar far side. The rover, measuring 1.5 meters in length, 1 meter in width and height, and weighing 140 kilograms, is solar-powered and equipped with six independently driven wheels. Chang'e 6 Lander's scientific payload includes a Panoramic Camera (PanCam) for detailed images, a Lunar Penetrating Radar (LPR) to probe subsurface structures, and a Visible and Near-Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (VNIS) for mineralogical analysis.
