. TONY RAY’s PUBLIC RECORD – 30 – 🎥🎞🎬📽🎙✍️ .T. Ray Harvey | Public Information Officer 🎙✍️📰🗞📰✍🎙 .SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In their first game of the 2023 year at Golden 1 Center, the Sacramento Kings tumble 120-117 to the Atlanta Hawks in front of a sellout crowd of 17,611 spectators.🎙 .De’Aaron Fox led the Kings (20-17, 11-8 at G1C) with 25 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals in 37 minutes of action. Domantas Sabonis added 25 points, 14 rebounds, eight assists, and two steals for the Kings, who lost the first game of a five-game homestand. 🎙 .Kevin Huerter had another impressive game with 24 points, five rebounds, and made 4 of 9 shots in 3-point territory for the Kings, who beat the Utah Jazz 117-115 in a thriller on the road the night before. 🎙 .The Kings have won seven of their last 15 games and still have a respectable record as they inch closer to the halfway mark of the season. But Sacramento has lost their last four contests to the Hawks (18-20, 7-12 on the road), including the 115-106 road loss at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Nov. 23. 🎙 “Even though we lost tonight, I think we’re learning how to win, doing winning plays, and things like that,” said Kings’ reserve point guard Davion Mitchell. “You’ve seen Utah and even the Denver game, just making those winning plays. I think it slipped tonight. Like I said, we got to protect the paint more every game. We just got to keep protecting the paint.” .Sacramento gave up 60 points in the paint to the Hawks. John Collins had 22 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots for the Hawks, who ended a four-game losing streak in Sacramento. 🎙 .De’Andre Hunter had 22 points, eight rebounds, and two steals while Dejounte Young contributed 21 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals for Atlanta. Trae Young had 21 points and six assists. 🎙 .Murray pulled a train robbery when he stripped the ball from Fox and scored on a lay-up to extend a 118-117 advantage with 19.9 seconds remaining in the game. Along with a 3-point play by Young, the Hawks completed a 7-0 run to end the game. Murray made two free throws before the steal from Fox.🎙 “I love those moments. The defensive end, the offensive end, I love the moments. At the end of the day as a team you got to be able to execute if you want to go on the road and win,” Murray said. “I was in San Antonio my rookie year, we won 60-something games and went to the conference finals. I try to take that with me, each and every year when you got new teammates and being in a new situation in Atlanta. The Kings made 25-consecutive free throws in the game until Sabonis missed two important freebies that could have extended Sacramento lead with 50 seconds left to play. At this point, the Kings were on a 13-4 run after trailing 104-111 at the 3:50 mark of the fourth quarter. 🎙 .In regard to Sabonis’ missed free throws and Fox turning the basketball over to Murray, Sacramento head coach Mike Brown said “things like that are going to happen” but the real issue was not getting defensive stops at critical moments. 🎙 “At the end of the day, the offense is fun to watch and all that and you can probably win some regular season games. But we have to be able to sit down and guard if we expect to be a really good team and make some noise come playoff time,” Brown said. “If we can’t sit down and guard the ball, it can be tough for us.” The Atlanta Hawks have beaten the Kings five out of their last six meetings, including three straight victories. The Hawks last beat the Kings 115-106 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Nov. 23.🎙 .THE RETURN OF BOGI 🎙🎙🎙 Bogdan Bogdanovic had 17 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and made three off the bench for the Hawks. Bogi wore a Sacramento Kings uniform from 2017 to 2020 before joining the Hawks as a free agent. John Collins said he and his teammates wanted to get that victory for Bogdanovic. “He was locked in. I can tell the way he started the game. I know he wanted to have a good game and we wanted to help him in any way we could,” Collins said of Bogdanovic. 🎙 *The Sacramento Kings will face the Los Angeles Lakers at G1C on Jan. 7 and play the Orlando Magic at home on Monday, Jan. 9🎙 – 30 – #SacramentoKings #AtlantaHawks #TonyRayHarvey #NBA #Sacramento #AntonioRayHarvey #DeAaronFox #Kevin Huerter #SacramentoProud #DomantasSabonis #NateMcMillan #TraeYoung #MikeBrown #DejounteMurray Footage and Text by T.
