Custom duty is imposed based on the assessable value or tariff value. Calculation of assessable value is little tricky. If the assessable value is overstated, more custom duty needs to be paid. On the other hand if assessable value is understated or under invoiced then additional amount of custom duty and other taxes including penalty may require to be paid. Therefore, computation of assessable value or AV is very important. This video explains a comprehensive example of assessable value and the findings have been compared with an original bill of entry and invoice.
