Force Distribution & Types of Tooth Movement - Textbook Discussion - Proffit

Regarding few queries asked in LIVE Session, here is the clarification. 1. PDL fibres and movements they resist: Alveolar crest -- resits tilting, intrusive, extrusive & rotational forces; Horizontal -- resists horizontal and tipping forces; Oblique group -- resists vertical and intrusive forces; Apical group -- resists luxation, tipping; Interradicular group - resists tipping, torquing & luxation. 2. Root Torque: Torque or moment or moment of force is nothing but rotational force. Labial tooth torque will tip the crown labially or bucally and root lingually and opposite in case of lingual root torque. 3. Difference between tipping and root uprighting: Tipping is pivoting or rotation movement around the centre of resistance of a body. Whereas uprighting procedure usually done in mesially or distally tipped molars includes tipping, intrusive, extrusive combination of forces to obtain desired uprighting. 4. Pain management in orthodontic patients: "Although patent prostaglandin inhibitors like indomethacin can inhibit tooth movement, the common analgesics seem to have little or no inhaling effect on tooth movement at the dose levels used with orthodontic patients." - Contemporary Orthodontics, Proffit.
