A basse dance by the 15th Century composer Guglielmo Ebreo da Pesaro, a fascinating Jewish Italian dancing master. Played over the tenor line "La Spagna" (here on the medieval lute), the gittern plays complicated syncopated rhythms. I was able to play both parts as a solo on the medieval lute but the tenor line couldn't always sustain so I settled for a duet. Supposedly one of the characteristic occupations of Jews in Christian society in the Renaissance in Italy was teaching the arts of music and the dance.
