Getting a Haircut✂️| Greek Vocabulary Series

Welcome back to my channel!! I had a request of one of you to make a video about vocabulary and expressions for getting a haircut. Communicating your ideal haircut to your hairdresser or barber is already hard, and it’s even more nerve wracking in a foreign language. But don't worry i got you covered. Disclaimer, i am definitely not an expert about hairstyles and trends.I had always super simple haircuts so if you have any question that i haven’t included in this video feel free to leave a comment or contact me in instagram: https://instagram.com/linguatree_?igs... TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 Where can we get a haircut in Greece? 02:31 Make an appointment 03:42 The procedure step by step 05:52 Take off 4 fingers please! 07:16 Let’s make a change! 08:13 Barber shops First things first, you need to know where to go to get a haircut, or κούρεμα in Greek. Κούρεμα is a neuter noun, (το κούρεμα) because it ends with -μα. All the words ending in -μα are neuter nouns and of course the word κούρεμα follows the rule. If you are a woman you can go to a κομμωτήριο (hair salon) για ένα κούρεμα and if you are a man you can go to a κομμωτήριο or κουρείο (barber shop). The people who cut hair at these places are called κομμώτρια (female) or κομμωτής (male hairstylist) και κουρέας (hair barber). In the beginning the hairdresser λούζει τα μαλλιά, shampooing the hair so you don’t have to do it at home before the appointment. I think it’s the most relaxing moment in the world. The hairstylist uses two hair care products during this procedure, σαμπουάν shampoo and μαλακτική κρέμα (conditioner) to smoothen the hair. Now, in order to explain how much you want taken off in Greece we don’t use inches but cm.(εκατοστά) or fingers. (δάχτυλα) Θα ήθελα να τα κόψετε 4 cm ή 4 δάχτυλα. I would like you to cut it 4 cm or 4 fingers. If you want a change you can dye or colour your hair (βάφω τα μαλλιά μου) or get some highlights (κάνω ανταύγειες). Barber shops can take care of the beard too. They can shave it completely, (ξυριζω το μούσι), trim it (παίρνω ή κόβω λίγο το μούσι).
