Niels Jorgensen served as an FDNY firefighter for nearly 22 years until a forced medical retirement because of the Leukemia he contracted from cleaning up Ground Zero. In order to save his life, he was administered 2.5 years' worth of chemotherapy in 7 days. He was appointed on 10/21/90 and assigned to Ladder 105 on 12/22/90 He Transfered to Ladder 82, 9/93 due to serious injury in firetuck crash and then to Ladder 114 11/94. He was Promoted to Lieutenant in April 2002 and Assigned to Ladder 15 1/2003- 9/2003. He transferred to Ladder 112 9/2003- 12/2008 Then Transferred to Ladder 80 12/2008-01/2012.
