The GD&T Guy discusses a common problem in part design: over-constraint. This occurs when locating features work in contradiction to each other, resulting in difficult builds, and stress in the parts. These problems may not be apparent in CAD, where all geometry is perfect, but become easier to see once tolerance is assumed. In particular, we see it when a datum feature constrains degrees of freedom that are already constrained by another. Why "addicted"? Because sometimes over-constraint can seem like a good idea, like it will produce an extra-strong or functional assembly, when generally it does not. Many engineers seem hooked on over-constraint; the good ones attempt to avoid it.
