Created in 1992, Lebialem is one of the 6 divisions of the SW region of Cameroon The ongoing armed conflict in the English speaking regions of Cameroon amongst other socio political tensions has exposed the Division to unthinkable economic stagnation. Life in the two English speaking regions of Cameroon For the past 5 years has been terrifying, but for those in Lebialem it is more terrifying. Except #1 Lebialem is a stronghold for armed separatists fighters Who have been advocating for an independent state from the Republic of Cameroon For over 5 years now, Except #2 This is Menji, the administrative capital of Lebialem division which has become a ghost town. The town has been deserted as inhabitants have fled to nearby localities for safety. Except #3 The socio political crisis in the NW and SW regions have paralysed socio-economic life of the Division. The dark days of Lebialem will soon end as Sons and daughters of Lebialem origin have vowed to work towards reviving the socioeconomic growth of the Division. Elites, administrative authorities, traditional rulers and other stakeholders of Lebialem are meeting in Buea this Saturday August 13th, 2022 in an All inclusive come together dubbed The Lebialem socioeconomic conference convened by one of theirs Minister Paul Tasong Njukang who is the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy Planning and Regional Development in Charge of Planning . Except #4 Delegates who have come from Lebialem; Alou, Wabane and Menji, For close to 7 hours have centered discussions around restoring the lost dignity of the Division. Except #5 While hopeful about the return to normalcy and human life especially in the administrative town of Menji, steps have been taken to encourage community engagement in developing the area Except #6 Despite the unanimity in revamping the area, some delegates opine that Lebialem has been misrepresented by elites. Except #7 Ending deliberations, a number of resolutions were arrived at.
