This video Tutorial will be very helpful to our Engineering students. In this tutorial we will be learn " Spur Gear Construction - Basic Concept ". Gears are used to transmit motion at a definite and constant velocity ratio in situations where the distance between the axes of the driving and driven shafts is short. Gear:- A Wheel having teeth of uniform formation provided on its circumferential surface is called a gear. Classification of Gears:- 1) SPUR GEARS:- Gears which transmit motion between parallel shafts are spur gears. 2) BEVEL GEARS:- Gears which transmit power between shafts, whose axes intersect each other if produced, are called bevel gears. 3) HELICAL GEARS:- Gears which transmit power between parallel shafts, but the teeth are parts of the helices, called helical gear. 4) WORM AND WORM WHEEL :- Worm and worm wheel are used for high speed reduction, when the power is being transmitted between non parallel and non intersecting shafts. Usually the axes of the two shafts are right angles to each others. Gear Calculation For Spur Gear:- D= Pitch Circle Diameter. Cp= Circular Pitch=(pi XD)/T Dp=Diametral Pitch= = number of teeth per unit diameter m= module = D/T Where, T= number of teeth. D= pitch circle diameter. Outer diameter= O.D.= (T+2)m P.C.D.= D= T.m Root Circle diameter = (T-2.5)m Tooth thickness = Cp/2 Addendum(a)=m Dedendum(d) = 1.25m Tooth depth = a+d= 2.25m Pitch circle:- It is an imaginary Circle on which the mating gears are meshed. Addendum Circle:- It is the circle which contains the crests of the teeth. Dedendum/root circle:- It is the circle which contains the bottoms of the teeth. Circular pitch (Cp):- It is the distance, measured along the pitch circle, from a point on one tooth to a corresponding point on the adjacent tooth. Diametral pitch(Dp):- It is the number of teeth per unit length of the pitch circle diameter. Moduler pitch(m):- It is the number of units (cm or mm) of pitch circle diameter per tooth. Pressure Angle():- It is the acute angle formed between the line of action and the common tangent to the two pitch circles which passes through the pitch point. Standard pressure angle= 14.5, 20 To watch my all Tutorials :- Tutorial for Engineering Students: Open channel -- select playlist -- select subject --- view tutorial. / soumensir Step by step operations shown in a very easy way.
