Future Station Project - reimagining gas stations in the transition to electric vehicles

Gas stations are found everywhere in cities, suburbs, small towns and along highways. As we move from gas powered to electric powered vehicles, the transition will not only improve air quality but transform our cities and highways. Gas stations are a very visible symbol of our dependence on fossil fuels and the automobile. New ideas need to be shared with communities to help them understand the possibilities and plan for the future. Climate change makes this effort more urgent. The Future Station Project studies the opportunities provided by the transition to electric vehicles and develops prototypes for urban, rural and highway stations. How will we adapt to these changes and rebalance opportunities to improve social justice in our communities? This website along with the 9 prototypes and the short film are the components of Future Station Project. We invite you to explore the prototypes, watch the film and share the information with others. Speculating with design can help us imagine how things can be better than they are today and can be a catalyst for redefining our approach to planning for the future. These prototypes are not intended as didactic concepts, but to highlight our current issues and to encourage discussion that opens up possibilities.
