Mr. P. Explores... The Wallace Lake Quarry - Drained! (Berea, Ohio)

In this edition, we head down to check out the Wallace Lake quarries in the Mill Stream Run Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks in Berea, Ohio. The quarries were recently drained of a great deal of water by the Metroparks to dredge out and repair the swimming area there and as such, the old walls and blocks of the quarries that used to be on the spot began to rise out of the depths. The levels had sunken to the point where you could walk out on to those old quarry walls, which of course is exactly what we did! Extremely muddy shoes and almost going into the drink were worth it for this very rare sight, which only occurs once (maybe) every decade! As of the time of this video going live, the lake will begin being filled back up to its normal levels and the quarry walls will begin to submerge once again... This whole area is riddled with quarries and over a century ago provided sandstone for construction projects far and near alike. Nowadays, the quarries have been allowed to fill up and are used for recreational enjoyment; its hard to believe that the area in the video and in the remainder of Berea were once booming industrial complexes gouging rock out of the heart of the earth for buildings across the country!
