Halloween Skull DIY tutorial by Hollywood FX artist

In this installment I’ll show you how to take a human skull and turn it into a decent Halloween display. The skull is a basic anatomical human skull. It’s not a Halloween skull, and is primarily used for medical study. You can find them at medical suppliers, or online for about $30-40 (USD) The latex I use in this video is standard balloon rubber latex. The cotton balls I use are large or jumbo sized. Cotton balls can be easily unrolled and they hold together well for muscle building. Cotton balls also have a nice texture that mimics muscle fibers. Rolled sheet cotton is good for general skin coverage. The eyes are 26mm red doll eyes and fit well. I have high quality glass eyes but they’re 28mm and don’t fit. The reason this starts out with out eyes is because they took longer to arrive. This tutorial only covers some basics but is mostly learning the aesthetic of muscle placements. I have other videos that feature some of the techniques covered here. The technique is pretty simple. You will wet some unrolled cotton balls with latex and apply. Then dab it into place. It’s pretty simple. Work in small areas at a time. The tools I use are mainly chip brushes and stainless steel tools. The stainless steel tools are found online, or at craft fairs. Sometimes jewelry suppliers carry them as well. The one I use looks like a small hockey stick. I prefer it as the tool glides over the latex leaving nice wrinkles and muscle textures.
