Dangerous Ideas in Old Books?

A school district in Ontario was apparently removing from its libraries any book published before 2008. We live in a cancel culture. Speakers are shouted down on university campuses for saying something we don't want to hear. Books are challenged or banned not only because it contains bad language or sexual content, but ideas that make us uncomfortable. So it wouldn't surprise me that library books are culled based on date of publication. Old books contain a different way of understanding the world--and different, apparently, means bad. C. S. Lewis has some wise things to say about the books we read. I think George Orwell too. If these two guys argree, we better sit up and listen. They did not think old books were as dangerous and new books. And I think he's right. "On Reading Old Books," The Screwtape Letters and 1984.
