Here's another complete broadcast of a syndicated repeat of the arcade video game series Starcade as transmitted over WTNH Channel 8 in New Haven / Hartford, CT, and hosted by Geoff Edwards. In this edition of "TV's First Video Arcade Game Show" (designated S04E22, original air date given as January 25th 1984), the contestants are (for Team #1) Mark Lewis, 14, an eighth-grader at Bernal Junior Intermediate in San Jose who's into art and video games, and his father Paul Lewis, who runs a computer control service; and (for Team #2) Philip McKnight, 9, a Catholic school attendee into tropical fish and video games, and his father, Phil McKnight, a self-employed liquor store owner in San Francisco and a baseball and basketball coach at St. Vincent's Catholic School in Milbrae. The games highlighted in this edition are Change Lanes, Track & Field, Pole Position II, Motorace USA, and TX-1, with the Grand Prize being the incredibly awesome Crystal Castles arcade video game. Show voiceovers by Kevin McMahan. Includes: Station ID / promo for The People's Court Show open, with introduction of contestants and a listing of the games to be played today (Change Lanes, Track & Field, Pole Position II, Motorace USA, and TX-1), and a chance to win Crystal Castles; host and announcer clue in on Mystery Game, followed by question relating to the color of the spider web in Black Widow; 'PMM' (the younger Phil) and 'PWL' (Paul) start off by facing off on Track & Field Commercials for: New Haven Symphony, Greater Bridgeport Symphony and Eastern Connecticut Symphony - "Part of Your Life" YMCA (exercise program) - "Don't Put It Off" Description of today's Grand Prize, Crystal Castles, then scores are presented on podiums and question is posed to teams about Bubbles, before play begins on Pole Position II which, after the "plot" is laid out, the Lewis' and then the McKnights play for 50 seconds; the winners of that portion of the first round then play The Name of the Game Board, but not before a plug for Explorer Chess and White's Coinmaster Metal Detector; afterwards, a question and answer about Crystal Castles is shown on the screen Promos for: Wheel of Fortune (with excerpt of "Spinning Wheel" by Blood, Sweat & Tears) "Dream Houses" on Action News (voiceover by John Lindsey) (backing music: "In My House" by the Mary Jane Girls had to be muted to avoid YouTube blocking) Goofy Games at Walt Disney World for May 18th (with Al Terzi) PSA for Boys & Girls Club (seems like there was an edit right after the return from the break) Final question (about Popeye) to Lewis' and McKnights (followed by plug for K-Tel album collection worth $300), before Round 2 where each play Change Lanes (after pertinent description) for 40 seconds, and afterwards winners' prize (SpectraVideo SV-328 computer system) is plugged Promos for: Star Search '85 The People's Court "Gator" (among "Marvelous May Movies") (voiceover by Ray Marlin) PSA for 4H club (call Nancy Weiss) Between TX-1 and Motorace USA, the winners choose the former to play for the Grand Prize; description of game is given before their 30-second shot; after completion (and winners' family joining them), are the end credits Less than one second shot of PSA related to neighborhood block watch before recording ends This aired on local New Haven / Hartford TV on Saturday, May 4th 1985 during the 7am to 7:30am (Eastern) timeframe.
