Ladies and gentlemen, before we begin, please adjust your volume as it can be sharp on the ears. Today, I'm thrilled to share with you a special accordion piece that holds a deep personal significance for me. At the age of five, I discovered the music of Harry Hibbs, a legendary accordion player from Newfoundland. Inspired by his unique style, I began to mimic his playing, and over the years, his music became a cornerstone of my own musical journey. In this recording, you'll hear the Genos2 keyboard providing a backing track that complements my accordion playing. It's been about 50 years since I last played the accordion regularly, leaving my instruments behind with my parents when travel and logistics made it difficult to carry them. In 2011, I decided to rekindle my passion and purchased a new accordion, with a generous contribution from my mother, who insisted on supporting my musical endeavors just as she always had. What you'll hear is my heartfelt rendition of a piece from Harry Hibbs' albums, played on a diatonic accordion much like he used. His untimely death was a great loss to the music world, especially to the people of Newfoundland. I hope this performance does justice to his memory and brings you as much joy as his music brought to me. Enjoy!
