Tornado on the Great Central Railway | 31st August 2024

A very exciting day at the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire as the legendary Peppercorn Class A1 Pacific steam locomotive no. 60163 'Tornado' runs passenger trains again after 2 years! We take a train from Derby to Loughborough, and then on to Loughborough Central where we then take two round trips from Loughborough to Leicester North via Quorn and Rothley and back behind Tornado on the front windows. Afterwards, we then train spot at Quorn & Woodhouse Station to get good shots of Tornado passing through, then lastly we head back to Loughborough to see Tornado move up and down. Tornado was built and first ran in 2008, it then first visited the Great Central Railway in it's grey primer livery. in 2009 Tornado was the star in a special 'Top Gear' episode "Race to the North" where Jeremy Clarkson was on the footplate racing against James May in a vintage Jaguar car and Richard Hammond on a vintage Vincent motorbike. In 2010 Tornado made a second visit to the GCR in LNER Apple Green for a 60's gala, then for a short while on the mainline it was in BR Blue. In 2021 Tornado was in BR Brunswick Green, then in 2022 the A1 made a third visit to the GCR for passenger trains and an ECML gala. Now in 2024, it made a fourth visit in it's LNER Apple Green livery and this time facing North towards Loughborough.
