Bicycling Decorah Iowa's Trout Run Trail (April 2, 2023)

It has been a long winter here in Minnesota, and even with a wonderful 4-week break in Malaga Spain (   • Spain  ) we needed a break from the snow and ice, especially after a 12 inch April Fool's Day snowfall. We decided to head south to Iowa and settled on a visit to the Decorah area after checking out the city webcams to make sure there was no snow, and seeing the weather was supposed to be sunny and in the 60s. An easy 21/2 hour drive down Highway 52 from Minnesota's Twin Cities had us in Decorah and ready to bicycle the trail. The Trout Run Trail is not long, but it is a very interesting and beautiful trail with four sets of switchbacks. It would definitely be amazingly beautiful in the summer and we will most definitely head back for a ride in the summer as it is not too far from our favorite set of trails, the Root River Trails. We stayed at the Country Inn and Suites in Decorah which connects to the trail via a short path, a nice hotel (I used Radisson points to get a free room).
