What the Classics teach us about technology | Sofia Harris | TEDxFrancisHollandSchoolSloaneSquare

The classical world in this age has been cast aside and is regarded as little more than a crumbling ruin. However, its relevance to the world today has never been stronger than it is now. Advancements in technology are not unexpected however, the speed at which they are happening is unprecedented and raises serious questions of power and ethics. These are issues which were very much at the heart of the classical world involving automated machines, robots and the immense power wielded by the gods. The need to find balance and equilibrium was greatly explored in the ancient world, manifested through mythological stories, three of which will be looked at in detail during this talk in order to draw parallels with the dichotomies that we are facing today. Sofia is a student at Francis Holland School Sloane Square in London. She plans to continue her study of classics at university.
