Chambord (Black Raspberry) Liqueur Review

The Whiskey Crusaders review Chambord Liqueur which comes in at 33 proof. Chambord is a black raspberry liqueur from France from the Loire Valley in the 17th century recipe, but this version started in 1982 by Norton Sky Cooper at his family liqueur company Charles Jacquin et Cie who son later made St. Germain etc. Said to be based on a 1600s recipe that was introduced to King Louis XIV when he visited Château de Chambord which was served during the fine meals there at the time. In 2006 it was acquired by Brown Foreman. The process is first started by extracting juices from blackberries, raspberries, and blackcurrants then mixed with fine French spirits to infuse for 4 weeks, the berries are then infused again for an additional six weeks, at that point then the berries are pressed to capture their natural juices. The berry infusion is then blended with whole black raspberries and other raspberry varietals, 6 yr. xo cognac, Madagascan Vanilla, Moroccan citrus peel, and honey. It is finished off with herbs and spices including ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon. The bottle was redesigned in 2010 and removed the plastic golden belt and crown from it. The bottle is modeled after a globus cruciger. Cocktails: Chambord Royale, Chambord Bramble, Chambord Margarita, French Martini, Chambord Express Martini, Gin Berry Spritz, Pink Julip, Chambord Spritz, Chambord Collins, Kir Imperial, little purple men, purple Hooter, blood of Christ, Grateful Dead. This bottle was requested to reviewed by fellow Crusader Erik Evenson. A liqueur is an alcoholic drink made up of a distilled spirit and adding sugar, fruits, herbs or spices. They are often served neat, over, ice, in coffee, for dessert, but were originally medicines made by monks starting in the 13th century.
