In this video I explain how boxers or fighters are able to see punches coming. There is a big misconception about boxing defense. No one has supernatural reflexes. The best defensive fighters have YEARS of experience. Some say "Yeah he's just talented" or "He's just gifted" but I disagree being able to see punches coming is a skill and like any skill IT CAN BE TRAINED AND PRACTICED! Don't get me wrong reaction and reflexes play an important role when it comes to defense but I think it gets more attention because that's what the average person can see. In this video, I go over the non visual aspect of defense. Boxing is an incredibly complex yet simple sport. It's a beautiful art. I go over 4 elements of "Seeing punches coming" 1) Analyzing Patterns- The most skilled fighters in the world are able to read their opponent and analyze their movements or patterns. By identifying patterns you know what your opponent will MOST LIKELY throw. 2) Setting Traps- A trap in boxing is essentially getting your opponent to do what you want them to do. This is a great offensive and defensive move. By setting traps you encourage your opponent to throw the punch that YOU WANT them to throw. 3) Accurate Predictions- Experienced fighters are able to make accurate predictions. They do so by countless rounds of sparring or film study. Eventually they learn the mechanics of boxing and can accurately predict what punch their opponent will throw. 4) Reflexes/Reactions- YES, this is important but it's not nearly as important if you already know what your opponent is going to throw. You can improve your reflexes and reactions by sparring more. Learn your sparring partners movements so you don't have to rely so much on reflexes because if you do you may be a little too late.
