Infrared View of Thai Rubber Tree Plantations 2023

This is a 'black and white infrared' view of various rubber tree plantations in the Chumphon area. These photos were shot with a Panasonic ZS7 converted to shoot only 'infrared' photos. Thailand is the world's largest producer of natural rubber and it's very labor intensive. There are huge numbers of trees in some of these plantations that need to be cut, using a special knife, then emptied every other day, is a staggering job . I frequently see a husband-wife team out working amongst their trees with headlamps on in the early morning hours, either cutting or emptying the sap into 20 liter / 5 gallon buckets, then transferring into larger containers on their motorbike sidecar. You might have noticed some trees with plastic bags on them, a new trend? There is also a photo of an 'old style' ceramic one upside down next to a tree. The early containers were ceramic and that led to the black plastic version that looked like the ceramic ones requiring no need for a different scraper to clean out each cup when dumping them out. But with plastic bags, which certainly do not need emptying as often, there is no way to clean them out after dumping them into the buckets. The plantations I have seen that have converted to the plastic bags catch method have dirty ones scattered all over the ground in the plantations. This I found quite sad.
