In the accompanied presentation and video, I analyze the phenomenon I label as “Compensation Theory”. The gist of the theory is that neither per capita productivity nor real wages are growing enough to fuel economic growth in developed economies. This can be seen by cost of living rising faster than wages since 2000. The median individual wage fell below the cost of living of a mid-tier city during the GFC and has continued to fall behind since (although it has tightened somewhat post 2016).
