Hiking and Hammock Camping the Dolly Sods Wilderness, West Virginia

Backpacking in the Dolly Sods Wilderness area in the Monongahela National Forest was a real treat. We had awesome Fall colors on this hike and got to visit Lion's Head and the Forks of Red Creek area. We didn't take a swim this time but maybe when it warms up. Of course we were hammock camping and covered all the miles relatively quickly on this trip. We started at the Bears Rocks trailhead and ended there for a phenomenal backpacking loop and a great taste of West Virginia hiking. Technically the loop is 21.1 miles. However with quite a bit of backtracking and exploring around Lion's Head we estimate that we did about 25 miles on this trip. The loop is easily doable in 2 days but 3 days makes for a more relaxing time. We stayed at the last camp site along Big Stonecoal Run the first night and the very first stream crossing on the second night. It can be alot of fun seeing the trip from these guys' perspective. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
