Ho Alahia Episode 3 ACA Northern Tier Route across the U.S.

Excerpt from Trip Journal: 25, June 2024 Day 3 40 Miles Today, 202 Miles / Total for Trip Winthrop, WA - Okanogan, WA Yesterday was brutal. Got a late start today. Didn’t get on the road until around 10:45a. GPS did a weird thing and sent me off in the wrong direction, but got back on track. Met this guy Colin that noticed my bike and sat with me for a bit at breakfast. He did a cross country ride himself. Was fun chatting. The guy at the store where I bought water told everyone what I was doing and I had a bunch of people come up to me and wish me luck. Ran into another traveler, Mike, at the top of Loup Loup pass. He got there the same time as me, but in the opposite direction. Really nice guy. He picked up some bear spray from a bike hostel in Minnesota. He passed it on to me and asked me to return it if I don’t use it. Hopefully I won’t need to use it. Oh, and forgot to put it in my bag and it fell off my bike when I was speeding down the pass. Was able to stop and pick it up though. Decided to stop in Okanogan and rest. Got a hotel room and had a nice BBQ dinner. Short day tomorrow to Tonasket. 26, June 2024 Day 4 32 Miles Today, 234 Miles / Total for Trip Okanogan, WA - Tonasket, WA Was a short, uneventful day on the road. Was a little scary starting up. There was some thunder and threatening clouds ahead. Got rained on a bit. Stopped in a little restaurant to get some breakfast and wait out the rumbling. Had some nice moments on the road. Remote roads with little traffic are such a joy to travel. I wish my sister was here to see this. Got dumped on highway 97/20 later and really disliked all the high speed traffic. Legs are happy that there was little climbing today and planning a rest day tomorrow. Met the owner of the Red Apple motel, Chis. He’s a delightful old man. Left me with some reading material when I told him I don’t watch TV. He’s a Biden guy in a town that leans Trump, and he lets you know. I try not to talk politics to not stir the pot. Made some hard choices and mailed back about 4 pounds of stuff to Hawaii to lighten my load. Hopefully it will make the next two passes less painful. Pizza for dinner.
