How To Season a Humidor | The Proper Way | Kirby Allison

When aging or storing your cigars at home, the proper temperature and humidity is essential, and for that, you need a proper humidor. You could store them in something as simple as a plastic bag with a Boveda pack, but if you’re someone that enjoys the finer accoutrement of a beautifully-made humidor, like our Elie Bleu Casa Cubana Blue Palace, then you need to know how to properly season it. In this video, I discuss the simple yet critical steps involved in seasoning as well as some other tips and tricks to make sure your humidor is well maintained. Whenever a humidor is first opened or received, the wood is going to be dry and therefore needs to be “seasoned”, or simply put, saturated with moisture in order to properly maintain effective humidity levels for storing cigars. The process goes like this: Step 1 Wipe down entire inside of humidor with clean towel/rag and some distilled water. Step 2 Place 84% Boveda seasoning pack inside humidor for about 2 weeks, allowing the moisture to be fully absorbed into the wood. You can use something like a SensorPush or other hygrometer to monitor the levels of humidity inside the humidor. Step 3 Once humidity remains steady at 84%, remove the pack and utilize one of Boveda’s other percentage packs for ongoing maintenance and storage. Boveda has taken all of the guess work out of seasoning your humidor.
