Series Playlist:    • Engines of Amtrak   Amtrak was gearing up for their first high speed train endeavor throughout the mid to late 1990s. They struck a deal with Bombardier and Alstom to build not only a fleet of 20 high speed trains, but also a fleet of 15 new electric locomotives to replace their older and unreliable E60s. This sounded like a good idea in theory, but it didn't quite work out that way. Between Amtrak placing a lot of work onto Bombardier and Alstom, and then Bombardier and Alstom eventually not cooperating with Amtrak when they needed help, things were bound to go wrong for the HHP-8.
