How the "I Do Not Dream of Labor" Trend Led Millions to Quit Their 9-5's | Millennial BURNOUT

The "I do not dream of labor, I don't have a dream job" trend has been taking YouTube by storm for the past several months. Could it be that this was happening at the same time as the Great Resignation began to take place? In April of this year (2021), nearly 4 million people voluntarily quit their jobs. Around this same time, many young people were taking to YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok to discuss how they no longer aspire to have a career, and explaining why they left their day job to pursue a more fulfilling and purposeful lifestyle. Coincidence? I think not. In this commentary, I will cover what the "I do not dream of labor" trend is generally about, my personal thoughts and experience on productivity and "labor," how this phenomenon may have fueled the wave of resignations we saw in the spring, and what the future of work might look like in America. We'll also talk about how oftentimes, millennials associate their worth with their productivity, education, and careers (myself included.. though I'm not a millennial!).
