Trunks' world is shattered when the menacing Goku Black appears, intent on exterminating all mortal life. After losing friends, allies, and even his mother, Bulma, Trunks decides to return to the past and seek Goku and Vegeta's help once more. Suspecting that Black is actually Zamasu, the apprentice of Universe 10's Supreme Kai, Trunks begins to doubt his ability to fight. However, inspired by Vegeta's harsh encouragement, he resolves to surpass his limits and face Black. When Goku and Vegeta’s Evil Containment Wave plan fails, Black and Zamasu fuse into the powerful Fused Zamasu. Though Goku and Vegeta merge into Vegito, their fusion runs out, and Trunks is left to fight alone.
